Uber is taking its travel ambitions far beyond the road this summer after unveiling a new boat booking service across some of Europe’s most popular coastal destinations.

The ride-hailing giant has partnered with boat rental platform Click&Boat to allow holidaymakers to hire vessels directly through the Uber app, giving travellers a new way to explore Mediterranean hotspots during the busy summer season.

The feature will launch from mid-June and run until October, covering more than 20 coastal cities across Spain, France, Italy, Croatia and Portugal. Users will be able to access the service through a dedicated boat icon within the Uber app before completing bookings through Click&Boat’s platform.

The move marks another major step in Uber’s push to transform itself from a transport app into a broader travel and lifestyle platform.

Uber Expands Into Mediterranean Boat Hire Market.

While Uber has become synonymous with taxis and airport rides, the company is now targeting holiday experiences as demand for flexible travel options continues to grow.

Travellers using the new feature will be able to browse a curated fleet of around 4,000 boats, many of which come with a professional skipper included. The partnership is designed to make short-term boating experiences more accessible for tourists looking to visit hidden beaches, coves and islands that are difficult to reach by land.

The announcement was made during Uber’s GO-GET 2026 event in New York, where executives outlined plans to expand the app’s travel-related services worldwide.

Industry analysts say the collaboration reflects growing demand among younger travellers for experience-led holidays rather than traditional sightseeing packages.

Instead of booking expensive full-day yacht charters, users can arrange shorter trips directly through the app, offering a more affordable and spontaneous way to explore coastal destinations.

Croatia and Sardinia Among Fastest Growing Destinations.

According to Click&Boat, Croatia has become one of the most in-demand boating destinations for British travellers in recent years.

The company also revealed that Sardinia is rapidly growing in popularity, with bookings from UK customers rising by more than 43 per cent between 2024 and 2025.

Christian Berces, chief executive of Click&Boat, said the partnership with Uber reflects changing travel habits across Europe.

He explained that the majority of UK bookings on the platform are now for trips lasting less than a day, highlighting growing interest in short-term rental experiences.

Berces said many travellers are now prioritising unique activities that also create memorable social media content, especially among younger holidaymakers seeking more adventurous experiences abroad.

He added that many picturesque Mediterranean locations remain inaccessible by road, making boating one of the easiest ways to discover quieter beaches and scenic coastal areas.

Uber Positions Itself as Complete Travel Platform.

The new boating feature is only one part of Uber’s wider expansion strategy.

Over the past year, the company has aggressively broadened its services beyond standard ride-hailing, targeting premium travel, business transport and autonomous driving technology.

Last month, Uber confirmed plans to launch commercial robotaxi services in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year. The project will involve autonomous Lucid vehicles supported by rental giant Hertz, which will help manage charging, maintenance and cleaning operations.

Uber is also strengthening its presence in the luxury transport sector after acquiring chauffeur booking platform Blacklane.

Founded in Berlin in 2011, Blacklane operates in more than 500 cities across over 60 countries and has become particularly popular among business executives and premium travellers.

The acquisition gives Uber greater access to high-end chauffeur services as competition intensifies within the global travel market.

Uber Elite Targets Business Travellers and Executives.

Alongside its expansion into boats and autonomous vehicles, Uber has also introduced Uber Elite, a premium chauffeur-style service aimed at executives and frequent flyers.

The service allows customers to book professionally driven luxury vehicles through the Uber app, with rides available from at least one hour in advance and up to 90 days before travel.

Uber says all Elite journeys use commercially licensed chauffeurs and newer luxury vehicles that are less than three years old.

The service is also integrated into Uber for Business, allowing executive assistants and corporate travel managers to organise transport for clients and staff more efficiently.

Travel experts believe these additions show Uber is increasingly targeting higher-spending customers while attempting to compete with luxury travel providers.

Travel Industry Shifts Towards Experience-Led Tourism.

The partnership between Uber and Click&Boat arrives at a time when experience-driven tourism is booming across Europe.

Holidaymakers are increasingly looking for personalised and flexible activities rather than traditional package holidays. Boat trips, private excursions and short luxury experiences have become particularly popular among younger travellers sharing content online.

Experts say digital platforms are rapidly adapting to meet this demand by combining transport, accommodation and activities into a single booking ecosystem.

By integrating boating services into its app, Uber hopes to become a central hub for travellers planning entire journeys rather than simply booking taxis.

The company has indicated there may also be scope to expand the boat rental feature into additional destinations if the initial rollout proves successful this summer.
